Snow Removal FAQ for Oakville, Burlington & Milton

Quick answers about seasonal service, triggers, timing, windrows, salting, long storms, route capacity and My HSR.

Do I need to call HSR every time it snows?

No. Seasonal service is designed around automatic dispatch for qualifying snow events under the signed agreement.

What does a 3 cm or 5 cm snow trigger mean?

It is the accumulation threshold associated with the selected snow-clearing service. A 3 cm trigger can create more qualifying events than a 5 cm trigger.

Does the trigger guarantee an exact arrival time?

No. The trigger determines when an event qualifies for service; route order, weather, road conditions and contractual priority can affect timing.

What areas of my property are included?

Only the areas identified in the signed agreement. Driveway, entrance, walkway, private lane, parking area and municipal sidewalk should not be assumed to be interchangeable.

Is salt automatically included with every plan?

No. Ice-management treatment depends on the selected package or commercial agreement.

What happens if there is freezing rain but not enough snow to plow?

An ice event can occur without qualifying snow accumulation. Whether HSR applies salt depends on the selected ice-management service and agreement.

What is a driveway windrow?

It is the ridge of snow left at the driveway entrance when a municipal road plow passes.

Does HSR control whether municipal plows block my driveway again?

No. A private contractor does not control municipal plow timing. Windrow handling depends on the signed HSR scope.

What happens during a very long snowstorm?

Prolonged snowfall can cause already-cleared areas to accumulate again and can slow public-road travel. HSR operates according to conditions and signed obligations.

What is priority routing?

Priority routing can place a property ahead of non-priority accounts when reasonably practicable; it is not an exact arrival-time guarantee unless expressly stated.

Can I see whether HSR has serviced my property?

Current My HSR customers can have access to service-attendance information and route/service status where those features are active.

Do residential and commercial properties use the same pricing system?

No. Residential customers can use Build & Price for a preliminary package; commercial properties require a site-specific estimate.

Why does HSR limit route capacity?

Snow service has to be physically completed during real winter conditions. Limiting route capacity helps avoid unrealistic contracted volumes.

Does seasonal service mean unlimited work of every kind?

No. Seasonal snow clearing applies to the contracted service. Additional areas, salting, windrows or other work depend on the agreement.

Where does HSR provide snow removal?

HSR focuses on Oakville, Burlington and Milton, Ontario.
